CLAT -2012 |Common Law Admission Test 2012 Notification

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an all India entrance examination conducted by 14 National Law Schools/Universities for admissions to their under-graduate and post graduate degree programmes (LL.B & LL.M). The 14 participating NLUs in the order of their establishment are:

Eligibility for Under-Graduate Programmes
A candidate should have obtained a Senior Secondary School/Intermediate (10+2) or its equivalent qualification from a recognised Board with not less than 50% marks in aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST/OBC and PWD).
Candidates who have appeared in the 10+2 examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to appear in the test Age of candidate should not be more than 20 years in case of General/OBC candidates (22 years in case of SC/ST and persons with Disability) as on 1st July, 2012.

o The candidate must have passed the qualifying examination at the time of his/her admission and be able to submit its proof.


Eligibility for Post-Graduate Programmes
A candidate should have obtained a LL.B/B.L. Degree or an equivalent degree from a recognised University with not less than 55% marks in aggregate (50% in case of SC/ST /OBC and persons with Disability)*.
Candidates who have appeared in the qualifying degree examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to appear in the test**.

The different subject areas of the exam are explained as under:
  1. English including Comprehension
The English section will test the candidate’s proficiency in English based comprehension passages and grammar. In the comprehension section, candidates will be questioned on their understanding of the passage and its central theme, meanings of words used therein etc. The grammar section requires correction of incorrect grammatical sentences, filling of blanks in sentences with appropriate words, etc.

  1. General Knowledge/Current Affairs
This section will only test students on their knowledge of current affairs (broadly defined as matters featuring in the mainstream media between March 2011 and March 2012)

  1. Mathematics
This section will test candidates only on “elementary” mathematics i.e. maths that is taught up to the class X.

  1. Logical Reasoning
The purpose of the logical reasoning section is to test the student’s ability to identify patterns, logical links and rectify illogical arguments. It will include a wide variety of logical reasoning questions such as syllogisms, logical sequences, analogies, etc. However, visual reasoning will not be tested.

  1. Legal Aptitude
This section will test students only on “legal aptitude”. Questions will be framed with the help of legal propositions (described in the paper), and a set of facts to which the said proposition has to be applied. Some propositions may not be “true” in the real sense (e.g. the legal proposition might be that any person who speaks in a movie hall and disturbs others who are watching the movie will be banned from entering any movie theatre across India for one year). Candidates will have to assume the “truth” of these propositions and answer the questions accordingly.
Candidates will not be tested on any prior knowledge of law or legal concepts. If a technical/legal term is used in the question, that term will be explained in the question itself. For example, if the word patent is used, the meaning of patent (“a legal monopoly granted by the government for certain kinds of inventions”) will also be explained.
Tie-breaking
In event of tie between two or more candidates in the CLAT, tie will be broken by the following procedure and order:
  • Higher marks in the section of Legal aptitude in CLAT-2012,
  • Higher age and
  • Computerized draw of lots

PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING AND SUBMISSION OF THE APPLICATION FORMS:
  1. Mode of obtaining Application form
    • Printed Application Forms along with the CLAT-2012 Information Brochure will be available at the designated branches (refer-www.clat.ac.in)* of the State Bank of India, or in any of Law Schools mentioned above against payment of Rs.3000/- only (Rs.2500/- in case of SC/ST/PWD on submission of proof) inclusive of test fee and bank charges.

    • Request for Application Form may be sent to the Convener, CLAT-2012, National Law University, Jodhpur, NH-65, Nagour Road, Mandore, Jodhpur -342 304 (Raj.) with a demand-draft of Rs.3000/- only (Rs.2500/- in case of SC/ST/PWD) drawn in favour of the National Law University, Jodhpur CLAT A/C and payable at Jodhpur (Rajasthan).

    • Candidates applying on downloaded application forms must enclose Demand Draft/Bankers Cheque/ Pay order of Rs.3000/- (Rs.2500/- for SC/ST/PWD candidates) in favour of "National Law University, Jodhpur CLAT A/C" and payable at Jodhpur (Rajasthan).

    • Candidates applying online should have a demand draft of Rs.3000/- (Rs.2500/- for SC/ST/PWD candidates) in favour of "National Law University, Jodhpur CLAT A/C" and payable at Jodhpur (Rajasthan) ready before starting the procedure.
Mode of Admission
  1. Admission to LL.B. courses
The basic principle of admission to LL.B. Courses through CLAT will remain the same i.e. merit cum preference. The institute-wise preferences shall be obtained from the candidates in the application form itself. The first merit list of the candidates will be made available to the respective participating institute as per merit cum preference basis. This list (institute-wise allotment) will be published along with the declaration of the result itself and the candidates will be asked to deposit their full fees with the respective Law Schools/ Universities allotted to them. The eligibility criteria will be checked by the respective Law Schools/Universities at the time of admission.
In case a vacancy exists in any Law School/University after completion of the formalities related to First List, the second merit list will be declared including the list of re-shuffled candidates. If any candidate who has deposited fee earlier is shifted to other Law Schools/Universities of higher preference; his/her total fees will be transferred accordingly and any difference in the fees shall be taken care of by the concerned Law School/ University where the candidate is finally allotted a seat.
All offers of admission by CLAT-2012 shall be provisional and shall not create any right to admission in favour of a candidate. CLAT-2012 will not be responsible for any expenditure incurred by the candidate on travel etc.
Under no circumstances shall change of University be allowed after a candidate is admitted to a University.

  1. Admission to LL.M. Courses
In case of admission to LL.M. Courses, admission will be finalized by the respective institutes on the basis of the score of the candidates in CLAT-2012. The CLAT-2012 will publish the general merit list and also category wise merit list. After the declaration of the results, the candidates shall be required to submit application for admission to institute(s) of his/her choice in the format to be made available on the CLAT website: www.clat.ac.in. Score card, information letter and application Proforma will be sent to individual student. The filled in application may be sent by either email or hardcopy within a period 20 clear days from the date of declaration of the results. The last-date will be notified on the CLAT website. There will be no application fee in this respect. The eligibility, reservations etc. will be determined and checked by the concerned institute. However, the relative merit of the candidates, within each category, will be determined solely on the basis of their score in CLAT-2012.

Candidates seeking admission to First Year of Two Years Full Time AICTE approved MBA/MMS/ PGDBM/PGDM Courses for the Year 2012-13 are hereby informed that the Common Entrance Test (CET) will now be conducted on Sunday, 11th March, 2012 instead of Sunday, 26th February, 2012 to avoid overlapping with CMAT 2012 conducted by AICTE, New Delhi.

The detail notification regarding availability of Information Brochure, filling up on-line CET Application form, Eligibility Criteria etc. will be published in leading newspapers and will also be available on the official web site www.dte.org.in/mba in the last week of January, 2012. It is further notified that, as informed by the AICTE, the admissions to First Year of Two Years Full Time AICTE Approved MBA/MMS/PGDBM/PGDM Courses from the Academic Year 2013-14 will be carried out through CMAT (Common Management Admission Test) merit list only conducted by AICTE.

IIT- Madras HSEE 2012, Humanities & Social Science Entrance Exam

Indian Institute of Technology invites application for Humanities & Social Science Entrance Exam (HSEE 2012) Entrance Exam for admission into Five Year Integrated Master of Arts (M.A) in following disciplines:

  • Development Studies
  • English Studies.


PATTERN FOR HSEE-2012
Type of Question paper: HSEE-2012 examination is of three hours duration and has two parts. Part I consist of objective type multiple choice questions for 2½ hours duration (150 Minutes), administered through computer and Part II is on Essay writing for ½ hour (30 Minutes) to be written on answer sheet distributed to the candidates at the end of Part I.

Part I covers the following topics:
(i) English and Comprehension Skill; (ii) Analytical and Quantitative Ability;
(iii) General Knowledge covering the areas of Indian Economics (since Independence), Indian Society, Contemporary World Affairs (post-World War II); and (iv) Environment and Ecology.

Part II requires the candidate to write an essay on general topics including current affairs.


Eligibility:
  • The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central / State Board
  • Candidates of GE & OBC Categories Must secure atleast 60% marks and those of SC, ST & PD categories must secure atleast 55% marks aggregate in qualifying examination.

How to Apply:
Application for HSEE 2012 is through online mode.
Examination fee is Rs. 800/- for SC/ST/PD, and all other categories Rs. 1600/-

Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad,Kochi, Kolkata, Madurai, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Thiruvananthapuram.
